The Need
Who would’ve thought that in Oscoda County, Michigan there would be people experiencing homelessness? One would think that homelessness is far removed from our rural area in Northern Michigan. Unfortunately homelessness is becoming more and more of a problem in rural areas like ours around the country. This community has countless people who have found themselves in situations where they have no place to go, no food to eat, and do not know what tomorrow will bring. Through the compassion of caring people in our community who have opened up their own homes to those in need, the vision of Lydia’s Gate was born.
Since opening our doors in September, 2012 we have served many in this community and the surrounding area. It warms our hearts to be able to help in the ways that we have, watching our guests grow in confidence and find strength in themselves that they didn’t know they had.

Our Purpose:

We provide guidance in life skills and help with future planning, finding employment, housing, and rehabilitation if needed. We also aid in the rebuilding of broken relationships to the best of our ability.
